Lifestyle / membership Android app Platform design

Building the Android member app for a global hospitality brand

Client
Soho House
Role
Product designer — Android member app
Surface
Native Android app
01 — Context

An app that has to feel like the houses themselves

40+
houses globally — one app to serve them all without losing local warmth

Room bookings, dining, events, member connection — across 40+ houses globally. This was not a utility app; it was an extension of the membership relationship.

02 — Insight

Respecting the platform is itself a brand signal

1
insight — platform-native behaviour is a form of hospitality

An app that felt at home on Android demonstrated the same attention to context that Soho House showed in its physical environments. Members on Android expected platform-native behaviour — not an iOS port.

03 — Process

Native first, not adapted

4
core journeys — booking, dining, events, and member connection

Designed natively for Android — Material motion, platform conventions, no iOS adaptations. Discovery prioritised: what's happening now and nearby always one tap away. Members could connect without the app feeling like a social network.
